Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PNM Resources (NYSE:PNM).  PNM provides electric and natural gas service to all of Rio Rancho and is the eight largest private company in New Mexico (2,700 employees).  PNM is a public utility regulated by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC). Other PNM Resources subsidiaries include: Avistar, First Choice Power, and Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP).

  • PNM provides service electric service to 426,000 New Mexicans through 3,192 miles of transmission lines; 5,598 miles of overhead distribution; and 4,504 miles of underground distribution lines.
  • PNM provides natural gas service to 481,000 New Mexican’s through 1,578 miles of natural gas transmission lines, and 12, 205 miles of natural gas distribution lines.
  • PNM ranks in the top quartile nationally in electricity reliability for customers. PNM offers a variety of electric and natural gas rate schedules.

PNM has some of the lowest electric rates in the Southwest, offering an important competitive advantage to businesses that use a large amount of electricity. Since 1994, rates for PNM retail electric customers – which includes residential, commercial and industrial customers – have fallen 19 percent while average rates in the Southwest have risen 14 percent.
